Turning lanes, two-way left-turn lanes and U-turns
ICBC's driving guide: Rules of the road
Turning lanes let you wait for a gap without holding up traffic going straight. Use a lane marked with turn arrows only if you are making that turn. At large intersections there may be more than one turn lane: if you turn from the far-left lane, you end up in the far-left lane of the cross street; from the lane next to it, into the lane next to it.
